Dermaplaning is a skin treatment in which your esthetician uses a medical grade scalpel to remove dead skin and vellus hair(peach fuzz) from the skin. Leaving the skin feeling smooth and soft!

There is a popular belief that shaving will make your hair grow back thicker. The short answer is yes and no. Vellus hair is the only type of hair we will dermaplane over and vellus hair is peach fuzz that is very thin and soft hair that grows on the face and body. Vellus hair will not grow back thicker unless there is a hormonal change in the body. So Dermaplaning it is completely safe. Terminal hair on the other hand, is a different story. Terminal hair is hair that is very visible and coarse in texture such as Hair on your brows, head and pubic areas. terminal hair can sometimes grow on the lip, chin and other areas of the face. If you are interested in dermaplaning we recommend you remove all Terminal hair with any hair removal method other than shaving prior to your treatment.

It is common for people to experience flushed skin after a facial due to the promotion of blood flow to the area. Slight redness can be normal depending on your skin tone and the type of treatment, more fair skin tones usually experience more redness but it usually subsides within the first couple hours after treatment.

The only part of a facial that might be uncomfortable is usually extractions. You may feel a tingle or slight sensitivity when an exfoliant is applied to your skin but other than that the experience is very enjoyable and relaxing.

My recommendation is 48 hours to get the most out of your treatment. If no makeup is not an option light makeup is recommended.
Waxing

The general rule of thumb is the length of a grain of rice or the length where you could grab it with your finger tips. Make sure all of the hair is at this length to ensure a smooth result after your wax.

Retinol should be avoided for 5-7 days prior to getting any sort of facial or waxing on the area retinol is applied. This also goes for any AHAs or BHAs such as glycolic acid.
